Whittlesea council has generously provided funding to support individuals to learn how to ride and improve their confidence on a bike. The aim is to increase the number of people enjoying our wonderful shared user path network and the benefits of outdoor recreation. Reducing the reliance on the car for short local trips and increasing opportunities for active transport is important in reducing our carbon footprint on the environment aswell as traffic congestion.
Several bike confidence skills programs will be offered over the next 12 months.
The first one starts on Friday 29th November for 3 consecutive weeks and is open specifically to all women living in the City of Whittlesea. More programs will be offered early in 2025 catering to both men and women.
To reduce economic barriers to participation bikes will be provided to learn on if participants dont own one and a free helmet is part of the program.
Program partners include Whittlesea BUG, Whittlesea Neighborhood House and Diamond Creek Mens Shed who are supplying the refurbished bikes.
The first Women’s Bike Riding Confidence program will be held at Mernda Neighborhood House commencing on 29th Nov
